As the requirements on a comfortable, activity-supporting indoor environment are becoming more and more defined, HVAC design work and fluid flow simulations are growing constantly closer to each other. In special spaces, such as atriums, glass halls and computer rooms, a realistic CFD calculation is a key influencing design input. Assessing and optimizing thermal comfort in these spaces has become much easier with developing software: IDA ICE 4.8 has a full-fledge developed interface to run extensive CFD calculations.

Responding the requests, an IDA-ICE CFD course will take place by 10th and 11th May, at 8:15-11.55 (CET). The course is organized online, via Teams and will be given in English, with a separately attached CFD license.

In the course, the following subjects and topics will be covered: 

  • Fluid dynamics theoretical background
  • Real time room modeling and discussion
    • Several room types and loads
    • Use case examples
  • CFD calculations
  • Result presentation
  • External, large-case visualization (with ParaView)
  • Live user’s practices
  • Q&A

The course aims to give the participants an overall understanding of applied fluid dynamics in building physics, through focused explanation, exercises, and active course participation.
After the course, the user will be able to produce reliable room models to study and evaluate thermal comfort; in addition to improve indoor environment quality design skills.
